San Antonio - Trinity first-year midfielder Jack Downes has been elected the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week.
Downes helped fire up the Tigers to a pair of SCAC road victories last weekend. Trinity edged Southwestern (TX) University 2-1 and then scored a 1-0 shutout win over Texas Lutheran University.
The newcomer from England scored two goals in the game against Southwestern. Downes broke a scoreless deadlock with a goal in the 67th minute of action, the first of his early career. He then posted the eventual game-winner with four minutes left on the clock for his second career goal.
Trinity is on a three-game win streak and has chalked up an 8-3-2 overall record. The Tigers are tied for second place in the conference standings with a 4-1-0 mark.
This weekend, Trinity will play two SCAC games in Colorado. First up is a Friday pairing with Johnson & Wales (CO) University in Denver, followed by a Sunday game at Colorado College in Colorado Springs.
