San Antonio – Trinity's men's soccer team began its final home weekend of the regular season with a 5-1 win over the University of Dallas (TX) on Friday night.
Despite enjoying possession for much of the opening half and holding an 11-1 advantage in shots taken, the Tigers were up just 1-0 at halftime.
Less than three minutes after the break, Josh Davis scored his first of two goals to put Trinity up 2-0 at the time. His second goal came with just under 30 minutes left in the game, and the Tigers held a commanding 3-0 lead.
Dallas cut into the lead with a goal in the 68th minute, but that proved to be the only on-target shot of the night for the visitors. The Tiger defense held the Crusaders to just five total shots and didn't yield a corner kick all night.
Connor Jones knocked in a cross from Fraser Burns in the 81st minute to squash a comeback attempt by Dallas, then Jack Downes put the icing on the cake two minutes later. Downes lined up a free kick from nearly 30 yards out in the 83rd minute, deflecting his attempt off the side of the Dallas wall for the score.
Trinity remains tied for second place in the SCAC standings with the win, improving to 10-4-2 overall and 6-2 in conference. Dallas falls to 4-10-1 overall and 2-5-1 in SCAC this season.
The Tigers also beat the Crusaders in a non-conference matchup in Irving, Texas, earlier this season, and Trinity is now 8-2 over the last 10 meetings with Dallas.
Senior Josh Davis celebrated Senior Day a couple of days early with the first two goals of his career with the Tigers. His first career goal turned out to also be the game-winner.
Andrea Codispoti and Fraser Burns provided their third assists this season, tying two other Tiger players for the team lead. Codispoti also leads Trinity with 19 total points and three game-winning goals.
The Tigers will play their final home game of the regular season schedule on Sunday, November 3, hosting Austin (TX) College at 2:00 p.m.
