San Antonio- Trinity's Jordan Pitts has been selected as the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week.
Pitts turned in excellent performances last week as the 15th-ranked Tigers took on three of the top-four teams in the nation. Trinity came up short to #1 Emory (GA) University, #2 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CA) Colleges, and #4 Middlebury (VT) College.
The first-year Pitts went 2-1 in singles and 1-2 in doubles over the week. Pitts defeated the 44th-ranked singles player in the NCAA Division III with a win over the Middlebury competitor. He then won a three-set victory over Emory to close out the week. Pitts and Liam Crawley posted a victory in doubles over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
This season Pitts stands at 9-8 in singles play, including a mark of 7-5 on the #3 line. Pitts and Crawley are 11-7 as a doubles team.
The 9-9 Tigers head to Tyler, Texas for weekend matches against nationally ranked teams. First up will be a matchup Friday at 3:00 p.m. with 17th-ranked University of Texas-Tyler. The Tigers take on #13 Whitman (WA) College at 11:00 a.m. Saturday.
