Austin, Texas – Trinity's softball team was swept 2-1 and 10-0 in a doubleheader at Concordia (TX) University on Tuesday night.
The Tigers put a runner on in all but one inning of the opening game, but managed to score just once. Trinity was held to just two hits in the second game.
Devon Potter started the third inning with a leadoff double – her second hit of the game – and came around to score on a groundout to second base to put Trinity in front 1-0.
That score held until the sixth inning when Concordia used a leadoff double of its own to get its offense going. The Tornados followed the double with back-to-back bunt singles to tie the game, then used another bunt two batters later to drive in the go-ahead run.
The Tigers got the tying run on base to lead off the seventh, but the next three batters resulted in three straight outs to end the game.
The second game scoring started with a solo homer by Concordia in the bottom of the second. The Tornados added three more runs on three hits in the third to take an early 4-0 lead.
Four hits and three walks led to a six-run fourth inning for the home team, which led to a run-rule after the Tigers were retired in order in the top of the fifth.
Trinity falls to 3-5 this season with the two losses, while Concordia improves its overall record to 8-6 on the year.
Potter also scored the team's only run to start the day, which was driven in by Carli Jones.
Allie Holbrook (3-3) allowed just two runs on six hits in the complete-game loss in game one.
The Tigers managed just two hits in the second game, which came off the bats of Jones and Adrienne Edwards.
Cat Patterson (0-2) was charged with the loss, giving up six runs on five hits over three innings to start the game.
The Tigers return home on Wednesday, March 6, hosting Our Lady of the Lake (TX) University in a doubleheader that starts at 5:00 p.m.
