San Antonio - The Trinity softball team was swept in a home doubleheader as NAIA member Our Lady of the Lake (TX) University won 9-1 and 6-3 on Tuesday night.
Our Lady of the Lake started off with two runs on three hits and a Trinity error in the first inning of the opener.
The two teams had just one base runner over the next two innings, then Tiger senior Marisa Trevino lofted a solo home run to left field to make it a 2-1 game after four innings.
The Saints responded with seven runs on five hits in the top of the fifth to set up the run-rule victory.
Game two started off similar to the first as Our Lady of the Lake scored three times in the first, then added another score in the second to take a 4-0 lead.
Trinity took advantage of an error in the bottom of the third, as Emily Barefield came around to score and make it a 4-1 game. The Tigers left two runners on for the second time in three innings to start the game.
The Saints added insurance runs in the fourth and sixth innings to push the lead to 6-1 heading into the bottom of the sixth.
Trevino led off the home half of the sixth with another solo home run, but Trinity once again missed a chance to cut into the lead even more after leaving two runners on base.
A leadoff walk in the final inning led to Hailey Wilson's RBI single to make it a 6-3 game, but Our Lady of the Lake got the next two outs to finish off the sweep.
The Tigers now stand at 13-14 and Our Lady of the Lake improved to 12-11.
Marisa Trevino was 4-6 in the two games, hitting a solo home run in each contest to take the team lead with three round-trippers this season.
The Tigers resume their Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference campaign this weekend at Southwestern University, starting with a doubleheader at 5:00 p.m. on Friday evening.
