Nicole Hennessey Appointed Trinity Assistant Softball Coach

San Antonio - Nicole Hennessey has been appointed the Assistant Coach of the Trinity Tigers softball team.

Coach Hennessey will assist Head Coach Abby Martin, who was appointed to the position in June 2019. Coach Martin served as head coach of the NCAA Division III program State University of New York at Oswego for the previous four seasons.

For the past two seasons Coach Hennessey was the assistant softball coach at the University of California San Diego, an NCAA Division II team. Coach Hennessey played a major role in UC San Diego's successful 2019 campaign, as the Tritons won the DII West Region title and advanced to the national bracket. It marked UC San Diego's first championship appearance since 2012 and the third in program history.

Coach Hennessey and her colleagues were elected the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Staff of the Year for the West Region in 2019. The Tritons also won the California Collegiate Athletic Conference regular-season crown, their first since 2011. 

During her first season in 2018, UC San Diego made its 10th DII postseason appearance. The Tritons competed in the NCAA West Sub-Regional.

Prior to joining the UC San Diego staff, Coach Hennessey was an intern at the 108 Performance Academy in Riverside, California. She worked with athletes ranging from 6-26 years old in the areas of throwing, hitting, and overall performance. Coach Hennessey also coached the Firecrackers travel ball team.

Coach Hennessey was a softball outfielder for three seasons at California Baptist University, a member of Division II. She sparked the Lancers to a PacWest Championship and was selected as an NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete. Coach Hennessey spent her freshman year at Azusa Pacific (CA) University.

Academically, Coach Hennessey earned a Bachelor of Science degree from California Baptist in 2016 in kinesiology with a concentration in exercise science and sports medicine. In addition to her NFCA Scholar-Athlete recognition, Coach Hennessey was a member of the Dean's List and Provost List for three consecutive years.

Coach Hennessey received a Master of Science degree from California Baptist in kinesiology in 2017 with a concentration in sports management. 

A native of Rancho Cucamonga, California, the versatile Coach Hennessey attended Los Osos High School, where she was a softball player and member of the band's drumline.
