San Antonio - Trinity student-athletes swept the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Swimmer and Diver of the Week accolades.
Juniors Beau Tipton and Mabel Fowler were selected as the respective SCAC Men's and Women's Swimmers of the Week. Junior Anthony Liva and first-year Gabi Fulk garnered men's and women's Diver of the Week kudos.
All turned in excellent performances at last week's Trinity-hosted Tiger Invitational at Josh Davis Natatorium. Trinity's women won the team title - beating out a number of NCAA Division II squads- while the Tiger men finished third.
Fowler broke her own school record in winning the women's 500-yard freestyle with an NCAA Division III "B" Cut time of 4:58.81. She captured the 200-yard freestyle in 1:52.62, just a half-second from a "B" Cut mark. Fowler led off the victorious 200-yard freestyle relay, as the Tigers won with a time of 1:35.82. On the final day of competition, Fowler and her teammates won the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:29.20, and she was runner-up in the 200-yard backstroke, clocking in at 2:01.76. Both were "B" Cut times.
Tipton won the men's 200-yard butterfly with a "B" Cut finish of 1:48.54, close to a conference record. He placed third in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:41.49, just 1.5 seconds off the school record. Tipton also finished third in his first collegiate 500-yard freestyle and joined his teammates in a third-place performance in the 200-yard medley relay.
Fulk won the women's 1-meter diving with an NCAA Division III qualifying score of 265.70. She posted a runner-up finish in the 3-meter competition.
Liva placed second in the men's 3-meter event with an NCAA mark of 335.40 and was also a second-place finisher on the low board.
