Trinity Men’s Swimmer Beau Tipton to Compete in U.S. Open

San Antonio - Trinity sophomore Beau Tipton will compete this weekend at the Toyota U.S. Open in Atlanta, Georgia.

Tipton will swim against world and national-class athletes in the men's 200-meter butterfly Long Course event Saturday at the McCauley Aquatic Center at Georgia Tech University. He has a seed time of 2:04.19, which he swam at the Alamo Cup meet last August in San Antonio.

"Beau has been preparing mentally for this meet since he qualified for it in the summer," said Trinity Head Swimming Coach Scott Trompeter. "His swimming at the U.S. Open exemplifies what we are striving toward as a team in becoming more of a national presence. The goal is to compete hard and possibly earn a bid to compete at the 2020 Olympic Trials in Omaha (Nebraska)."

Tipton's time of 1:48.54 in the Short Course 200-yard butterfly is ranked third in the NCAA Division III. The time was just 0.05 seconds off his school record. He won the event November 23 at the Trinity-hosted Tiger Invitational at San Antonio's Josh Davis Natatorium.
