Sherman, Texas - The Trinity women’s basketball team extended its win streak to 10 games with a 64-48 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference victory over Austin College on Friday night.
The Tigers upped their record to 10-2 and 1-0 in SCAC play, while the Kangaroos dropped to 5-7 and 0-2 following the game at Hughey Gym. The two teams will meet again February 13 in Sams Gymnasium in San Antonio.
Anecia Richardson posted her second straight double-double by scoring 19 points (12 in the first half), and tying her team season-high of 10 rebounds. Richardson paced the Tiger offensive attack by hitting 7-10 from the field, and she aided the defense by blocking five shots in today's game.
Lauren Splawn contributed 17 points andd six rebounds for the Tigers, hitting 5-13 three-pointers. Hannah Coley added 16 points on 5-14 shooting, as well as five assists. She knocked down 3-10 from three-point range in tonight's game, and is now 10 triples from breaking the school record.
Caitlin Barrett tied her team season-mark by shelling out six assists to go with four points, and she is the Tiger leader with 35 assists this season.
The first half ended up with a 30-30 score. The Tigers led for most of the half, until the ‘Roos took a 30-29 lead on a layup with 10 seconds to go. Monica Holguin, who finished the game with five total points, evened things up by making one of two free throw with two ticks on the clock.
Austin College led briefly (34-30) less than two minutes into the second half (34-30), but Coley and Splawn hit four three-point buckets over the next several minutes to put Trinity up 42-35 early in the period.
Richardson's layup midway through the half pushed the Tiger lead to double digits, but five unanswered points by the 'Roos cut the lead back to five (48-43) with less than nine minutes remaining. Trinity then closed out the game in style, going on a 16-5 scoring spree to secure the victory.
Erin Riley of Austin College made a double-double of 13 points and 12 rebounds to pace the Austin College team.
Trinity continues its North Texas trip Saturday in Irving, by taking on the University of Dallas in another SCAC matchup at 4:00 p.m.
