10th-Ranked Trinity Edges Defending Champions Hardin-Simmons

San Antonio - Trinity senior forward Abby Loar scored in the second overtime period as the 10th-ranked Tiger women beat the defending NCAA Division III champion Hardin-Simmons Cowgirls 3-2 Saturday night.
Loar scored her second goal of the night in the 103rd minute, on an assist by sophomore defender Jennifer White.  The Tigers improved to 2-0-0 to start the 2011 season.
The top-ranked Cowgirls (0-1-0) had edged Trinity 2-1 in last year's NCAA second round. Hardin-Simmons went on to win the national title with a victory over Messiah, at San Antonio's Blossom Soccer Stadium.
Loar opened the scoring in Saturday's clash of Division III top 10 teams, with an unassisted goal in the eighth minute. Junior midfielder Lindsay Euers gave Trinity a 2-0 lead in the 12th minute of play, on assists by first-year midfielders Kirby Peddicord and Kelsey Falcone.
But Hardin-Simmons forward Katie Kuykendall closed the score with a goal in the 16th minute, and evened the game at 2-2 in the 30th minute.
First-year keeper Devan Osegueda played more than 77 minutes, giving up one goal, and recording one save.
The Tigers led the Cowgirls 16-11 in total shots, and the two teams were even at 6-6 in shots on goal.
Up next for the Tigers is a home game with Greenville (Ill.) at noon Monday.
