Tacoma, Washington - The 11th-ranked Tiger women's soccer team was upset in a 1-0 defeat at the University of Puget Sound (WA) on Friday evening.
Trinity had the first opportunity of the match with an on-target shot in the 19th minute, but the first half ended in a scoreless tie. Puget Sound had a pair of shots on goal in the period, but Tiger goalie Paige Wallace saved both.
Just over a minute into the second half, Puget Sound broke the tie with the eventual game-winner.
The Tigers had just one more shot on goal, which came in the 61st minute of play.
Trinity suffered its first loss of the young season, falling to 3-1-0 overall in 2019. Puget Sound improved to 2-1-1 with the victory. The teams met in San Antonio last season, with Trinity earning the 1-0 double-overtime victory.
The Tigers were held to seven total shots on offense, though the defense also only allowed five shots in the game.
Jessica Young and Kaity Ward had the only shots on goal in the game, but both were saved to keep Trinity off the board. It marked the first time since the 2018 season opener that Trinity was shut out in a regular season game.
Trinity will take on Willamette (OR) University on the Puget Sound campus at 11:00 a.m. (PT) on Sunday, September 15.
