San Antonio – Trinity's women's soccer team earned a 6-0 non-conference victory over Southwestern (TX) University on Sunday afternoon.
Trinity controlled the action from the start, producing a commanding 27-4 advantage in total shots and 16-1 lead in shots on goal in the game.
That 2-0 lead held through the first half, as Trinity had eight shots on goal among 10 total shots in the opening 45 minutes.
Just two minutes into the second period, Kaity Ward lofted a shot towards the goal, where a Southwestern defender attempted to head it away. Instead, the ball was pushed over the goalkeeper and into the net for an own-goal that pushed it to 3-0 Trinity advantage.
In the 65th minute, Alana Wickham drew a foul in the box to earn a penalty kick for the Tigers. She took the penalty herself to give the Tigers a commanding 4-0 lead.
The Tigers scored twice more in the final 10 minutes of action, as Anna-Kate Coker got clean crosses away from the left side of the Trinity attack. The first found Camryn Beall for a score in the 84th minute.
The second came less than a minute later and went to Kristen Coniglione, who knocked her first attempt off the post, then put her own rebound into the net for the score.
The Tigers improve to 6-2-0 overall this season, while Southwestern falls to 8-2-0 on the year. Trinity has won 35 of the 37 meetings against the Pirates (since 1993).
Five different Trinity players scored goals in the game, with Southwestern scoring an own-goal to account for the sixth.
Molly Sheridan picked up her second goal of the year in the ninth minute, collecting her second game-winning goal as well.
Abby Blackwood scored her first goal of the season in the first half of play, which also accounts for her seventh career score.
Kaity Ward assisted on each of the first two goals and it was her shot that was directed into the net for the own-goal early in the second half. Ward now has 12 assists in her career with the Tigers.
Alana Wickham netted her second goal of the season midway through the second half, converting a penalty kick after drawing the foul in the box.
Camryn Beall took the team lead in goals after scoring her third of the season late in the game. That lead last less than a minute after Kristen Coniglione matched Beall's third goal just 51 seconds later.
Anna-Kate Coker picked up her first assist of the year on Beall's goal and supplied the pass that led to Coniglione's rebound goal.
