San Antonio - Trinity sophomore Caroline Kutach has been chosen as the first Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week for the spring campaign.
Kutach helped pace the 23rd-ranked Tigers to a 1-1 record last week, beginning with a 9-0 home shutout of Birmingham-Southern (AL) College. The Tigers were edged 4-3 by Division I University of the Incarnate Word (TX) on Saturday, then took on D-II St. Edward's (TX) University later in the day. That final match was halted during singles play, with the Tigers leading 3-0 at the time play was stopped.
In the course of the three matches, Kutach posted a 3-0 record in doubles, and a 2-0 mark in singles. Kutach and Zoe Kaffen won #2 doubles against Birmingham-Southern and the University of the Incarnate Word. Kutach and Andrea De Leon were paired in the third line of doubles in the match with St. Edward's, as Trinity swept the tandem competition with the Hilltoppers.
Kutach captured the second line of singles in the Birmingham-Southern matchup, as well as against UIW. Her singles match with St. Edward's was not completed because of the weather.
Trinity travels to Abilene, Texas, to take on Hardin-Simmons University at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
