#16 Tigers Defeat Colorado College and Austin College

San Antonio - The 16th-ranked Trinity women's tennis team scored convincing victories over Colorado College and Austin (TX) College on Saturday.


The Tigers first blanked Colorado College 9-0 Saturday morning, and followed with an 8-1 decision over Austin College in the afternoon.

Trinity did not drop a set in the opener with the Colorado Tigers.

Liza Southwick and Marie Lutz played #1 doubles, Zoe Kaffen and Caroline Kutach were paired on the second line, and Cheyenne Duncan and Ashley DeBauge played the third matchup.

Nos. 1-6 singles were captured by Southwick, Kutach, Andrea De Leon, DeBauge, Francesca Canjar, and Duncan.

The lineup was slightly changed in the match with Austin College, as the Tigers led 3-0 after the tandem competition. Southwick and Lutz remained paired at #1 doubles, while De Leon and Mary Kaffen played the second match. Canjar and Elena Wilson represented the Tigers at #3 doubles.

Southwick won #1 singles, Zoe Kaffen took the third line, and Mary Kaffen won #4 singles. Duncan was victorious at #5 singles, and Anne Wellford was the winner at #6. The only loss came at #2 singles, as Lutz came up short.



The Tigers have won five straight matches, and stand at 15-7. Colorado College dropped to 7-11, and Austin College is 8-9.

Mary Kaffen, Caroline Kutach, and Andrea De Leon are each on a four-match singles win streak.



The Tigers will host the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships April 28-30. Trinity is the defending SCAC champion, and seedings will be announced early next week by the conference office.
