Corpus Christi, Texas - The Trinity women’s tennis team began its fall season Friday at the Contender CrossFit Islander Open at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center.
Zoe Kaffen won her “B Singles” match, defeating Alicia Thai of the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley 6-2, 6-1. Kaffen now takes on Carolina Bulatovic of host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in Saturday’s semifinals.
Megan Flores bested Jayci Wong of Lamar (TX) University 6-0, 6-2 in the “D Singles” draw. Flores will meet Ileana Mocciola of Abilene Christian (TX) University in the semifinals
Ashley DeBauge came up short in her “B Singles” matchup and enters consolation play.
Mary Kaffen and Francesca Canjar lost their first-round “C Singles” matches and will play in the consolation draw, as did Natalie Hur in “D Singles.”
Nichole Marklewicz and Maddee Williams Koeller lost in “E Singles” and are slated for consolation play.
Zoe Kaffen and Mary Kaffen lost to Sophie Omoworare and Keegan McCain of the University of Texas at San Antonio 6-2 in “A Doubles.” Flores and Hub also dropped to the consolation bracket.
DeBauge and Marklewicz continue Saturday in the “B Doubles” consolation.
The tournament continues Saturday with a 9:00 a.m. starting time.
