Abilene, Texas - Trinity's Zoe Kaffen and Mary Kaffen will play for the "A" Doubles title Sunday at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Southwest Region Championships, while Zoe Kaffen will compete in the Singles Semifinals.
The defending champion and second-seeded Kaffen sisters defeated third seeds Esther Bowers and Nina Mitrofanova of Southwestern (TX) University 8-1 in Saturday's semifinals.
The Kaffens will take on top seeds Kathy Joseph and Samantha Wong of the University of Texas at Dallas Sunday for the championship.
Fifth-seeded Zoe Kaffen won her "A" Singles quarterfinals matchup, defeating the top-seeded Joseph 6-3, 7-5. Kaffen takes on #7 Mitrofanova in Sunday's semifinals at McMurry.
Third-seeded Ashley DeBauge lost 3-6, 1-6, in the quarterfinals to the sixth-seeded Wong.
Mary Kaffen, seeded in the 9-16 category, lost 5-7, 3-6 to second-seeded Elisa Kendall of East Texas Baptist University in the round of 16. .
The "A" Singles and Doubles champions advance to the ITA Cup, to be held October 17-20 at Rome, Georgia.
The singles semifinals will be played Sunday at 8:00 a.m., with the championship match set for 11:00 a.m. The doubles championship time will be announced after singles are complete.
