Shreveport, Louisiana - The 16th-ranked Tiger volleyball team closed out the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Divisional Tournament with victories over Centenary College and Austin College on Sunday afternoon.
Trinity first blanked host Centenary College 3-0 (25-20, 25-12, 25-22); and then held off Austin College 3-2 (25-13, 25-13, 24-26, 22-25, 15-12) in the final match of the afternoon.
The Tigers (14-5, 6-1 SCAC) have now won 10 of the last 11 matches, falling only to 10th-ranked Colorado College to open the weekend on Friday. Trinity rallied to beat the University of Dallas 3-2 in the final matchup yesterday.
Erika Edrington posted 18 assists against Centenary, along with recording six digs. Layne Hubbard fired in five service aces in two sets, and Kirby Smith led the team in kills, with seven.
The Tigers built up a two-set lead before Austin College rallied to tie up the match. But Trinity hit .294 in the final stanza to close out the proceedings.
Hubbard hit .302 against Austin College, with 17 kills, four errors, and 43 total attacks. She also posted 15 digs for her double-double performance. Edrington dished out 26 assists and accounted for 11 digs, while Shannon Courtney also had 11 in the digs category. Maggie Emodi hit a double-double with 10 kills and 15 digs.
Trinity returns home Thursday to host NAIA member Our Lady of the Lake University in a 6:00 p.m. match.
