San Antonio – Trinity's sixth-ranked volleyball team opened its final home weekend of the regular season with a 3-0 win over Hardin-Simmons (TX) University on Friday night.
The Tigers won 25-12, 25-16, and 25-15 for the sweep. Trinity trailed only once in the opening set, which came after Hardin-Simmons took the first point of the night. Trinity broke the game open with a 16-3 run early in the match, putting the home team up 20-6 on its way to a 1-0 match lead.
Hardin-Simmons held a slim margin early in the second set, but Trinity turned a 10-12 deficit into a huge lead with 11 consecutive points.
Trinity led wire to wire in the third, beginning with a 5-1 run at the start, and the Tigers never looked back. Trinity closed the match by scoring seven of the final nine points to finish off the win.
Trinity improves to 30-4 this season with its 16th consecutive victory, while Hardin-Simmons falls to 12-12 with the loss.
The Tigers reached 30 wins for the first time since 2014 and for the 18th time overall under Head Coach Julie Jenkins.
Trinity is now 16-1 against Hardin-Simmons (since 1991) and has won eight consecutive matches in the series.
Annie Rose Leggett led Trinity with 13 digs and three service aces, and she also tied for the team lead with seven kills.
The Tigers will host East Texas Baptist University at 2:00 p.m. tomorrow.
