#7 Volleyball Reaches SCAC Final With Win Over Austin College

MATCH SUMMARY

Trinity lost the opening set 25-27, but bounced back by winning 25-13, 25-22, and 28-26 to take the match victory.

The first set was a battle from start to finish as neither team led by more than two points the entire way. The Tigers got to set point with a 24-22 lead late, but Austin scored five of the final six points to steal a win.

Trinity never trailed in the second, jumping out to a 12-4 lead and never looked back. The Tigers led 22-10 at one point and held Austin to a negative hitting percentage to tie the match at 1-1.

Austin took a 7-3 lead in the third, then later answered a Trinity run with four straight points to take a 17-13 advantage. Trailing 16-18 just a few points later, the Tigers scored five of the next six points to take the lead for good.

The Tigers started off strong with a 13-6 lead in the fourth set, but Austin hung around and later used an 8-2 run to draw within one at 17-18. Trinity began to pull away 22-19, but Austin scored four straight to snatch a 23-22 lead. Each team fought off a set point, but Trinity scored four of the last five to finish off the win.

 

NOTABLES

The Tigers secured their 18th consecutive victory with the win, which gives Trinity an overall record of 32-4 this season.

Trinity will play in the SCAC Tournament Championship for the 18th time in program history, holding an 11-6 record in the final. The Tiger last won the tournament title in 2016.

Avery Tuggle recorded her 18th double-double of the season with 19 kills and 21 digs in Saturday's win. She tied her season-high in kills, while her 21 digs are her most this season and the second-most in her career for a single match.

Annie Rose Leggett also had a double-double with 10 kills and 19 digs, while Emily Ellis finished with 10 kills and a .529 hitting percentage. Leggett has piled up 17 double-doubles so far this year.

Lexie Acevedo and Marisa Amarino both topped 20 assists in the match, and Acevedo led all players with 28 assists to go with five digs.

Sami Lin also reached double figures with 18 digs, while Emma Funk tallied eight kills and led the Tigers with four blocks in the match.

Sarah Williammee notched nine kills, five digs, and three blocks for Trinity.
