Cross Country Opens 2019 Season With Strong Performances

San Antonio - TThe Trinity men's and women's cross country teams kicked off their seasons with fifth place finishes Friday at the UIW Opener, held at Classic Elites Soccer Complex.

The Tigers took on teams such as the host University of the Incarnate Word (TX), Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, the University of Texas at San Antonio, and Texas State University.

The best Tiger finish was by Brianna Ratliff, who placed sixth in the women's 4k race among a field of over 75 runners. The Trinity senior crossed the finish line in 15:34.1, just seven seconds behind the Incarnate Word competitor.

Jordan Juran finished just outside of the top 20 with her time of 15:57.5 to finish second among Tiger runners. A Trinity trio of first-year runners all cracked the top 35 in the race, despite the tough competition. Paige Tangney placed 25th in the women's event, Anna King came in at #30, and Maia Dykstra finished in 34th place.

Keaton Holt finished in 19th place in the men's 6k event, with a time of 19:30.5 that left him a mere 0.04 seconds behind the UIW runner.

Chad Conway placed 25th, Joshua Morgan was 33rd, and Craig Sandoval earned a 40th-place finish.

The Tigers will compete September 13 at the University of Texas Invitational in Round Rock, Texas.
