Matthew Kirk begins his second season on the Trinity University men's soccer coaching staff in 2025.
Kirk joins the Tigers following a successful career as a professional and collegiate soccer player, and most recently, a spring season as a player-coach at the University of North Carolina-Charlotte in 2024. He led the UNCC team to its first-ever American Athletic Conference Championship in 2023, defeating second-ranked Southern Methodist University to win the title. Kirk and the 49ers advanced to the round of 32 in the NCAA Tournament before falling to eventual National Champion Clemson University. Before joining UNCC in 2022, Kirk also played one season at Cal State-Monterey Bay in 2019-20.Â
Prior to his move to the collegiate soccer in the United States, Kirk played three seasons of professional soccer in Northern Ireland for Coleraine Football Club. While at Coleraine FC, Kirk led the team to three Europa League appearances that included winning the Irish Cup in 2018.Â
