Jacob McMindes is in his second season as head coach of theTrinity women’s tennis team.

Coach McMindes led the Tigers to their second consecutiveSouthern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Championship, andtheir second straight appearance in the NCAA Playoffs, followingthe 2013 campaign. Trinity’s win over Agnes Scott College inthe opening round was the Tigers first NCAA Tournament victorysince the 2008 season. The Tigers advanced to the NCAA secondround, and lost to Emory University.

Coach McMindes was elected SCAC Women’s Tennis Coach ofthe Year, while Thavindra Ekanayake was selected as SCAC Player ofthe Year.

Ekanayake and Mackenzie Knoop were named All-Americans by theIntercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). The duo won the ITARegional Doubles Championship in the fall of 2012, and advanced tothe National Small College Championships.

Coach McMindes was the assistant coach of the Tiger men’sand women’s teams during the 2011-12 campaign, under headCoach Russell McMindes, his brother. He served as the men’sassistant coach since 2009. Russell McMindes is in his fifth yearas Trinity’s men’s coach.

Both Tiger teams have prospered with the leadership of theMcMindes brothers. During the 2012 season, Trinity’s womencaptured their first SCAC Championship since 2006. The Tigersqualified for the NCAA Tournament for the first time in four years.Trinity’s men won their third straight SCAC title, andadvanced to the NCAA postseason event for the third consecutiveyear.

Prior to joining the Tiger athletics staff, Coach McMindesplayed four seasons with the University of Incarnate Word –in San Antonio – earning a degree in engineering managementin 2009. He was a First Team All-Heartland Conference player, andmade Second Team All-Region in doubles, at the NCAA Division IIinstitution.

Coach McMindes won the ITA West Region Assistant Coach of theYear award for both the men's and women's teams. He received thehonor as men’s assistant in 2011, and repeated the feat in2012 for his leadership with the Trinity women.

A native of San Antonio, Coach McMindes graduated from SamuelClemens High School.
