Derick Lawrence is in his second season as Trinity’s headcross country coach.

During his first year at the Tigers helm, Coach Lawrence guidedTrinity’s women to a 12th-place finish at the NCAADivision III Cross Country Championships. It marked the second-bestperformance in school history. Trinity’s men’s team,competing in their first national meet,  finished 32nd atthe NCAA competition.

Coach Lawrence also led Trinity to its third women's NCAAregional title.

Trinity captured both the men’s and women’s SouthernCollegiate Athletic Conference Country  Championships for thefirst time in school history.

For his efforts, Coach Lawrence was elected Women's RegionalCoach of the Year, as well as the SCAC Coach of the Year, for men'sand women's cross country.

He had had served as the Tigers assistant cross country andtrack and field coach from 2010-2012. Coach Lawrence was a majorcontributor to the Tiger cross country teams’ success, as thesquads received U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country CoachesAssociation (USTFCCA) national rankings.

Prior to joining the Trinity staff, Coach Lawrence was agraduate assistant coach for two years at his alma mater, DePauwUniversity in Greencastle, Ind.

He coached DePauw student-athletes to two cross country and sixtrack and field NCAA All-American performances. In addition, CoachLawrence mentored one cross country and seven track and fieldSouthern Collegiate Athletic Conference champions. DePauw was amember of the SCAC until 2011. Coach Lawrence served as aninstructor for the Spring 2010 Min-Marathon Training class in thedepartment of kinesiology at DePauw.

Coach Lawrence was a volunteer assistant with the Indiana StateUniversity men’s cross country and track and field teamsbefore heading back to DePauw. The Sycamores placed as high asthird in the Missouri Valley Conference Cross Country Championshipsduring his tenure. Coach Lawrence was also a media intern, where heproduced news releases. He earned a Master of Arts in recreationand sport management from Indiana State in 2010.

He received the Bachelor of Arts in kinesiology (emphasis inexercise science) from DePauw in 2007. As a student-athlete, CoachLawrence competed on the Tigers cross country team from 2003-2006,and track and field from 2004-2007. The talented Coach Lawrenceearned All-SCAC Cross Country honors in 2006. He turned in theeighth-best all-time DePauw performance in the 10,000 meters(32.15.65), during the 2007 campaign.

Coach Lawrence holds a Level 1 Coaching Education Certificatefrom USA Track and Field.
