Marc Powell enters his 25th year as the Head Athletic Trainer for Trinity as the 2024-25 academic gets started. Marc was appointed Trinity’s Head Athletic Trainer in the fall of 1999.
Marc supervises the wellness and physical rehabilitation of student-athletes in 18 intercollegiate sports. Additionally, Marc directs the Athletic Training Room staff, consisting of three full-time athletic trainers, and student athletic trainers.
His association with Trinity goes back to the fall of 1997, as he interned while attending the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA). Marc earned the Bachelor of Science degree in biology from UTSA in 1998. That same year, he worked on Trinity’s campus for HealthSouth, a contracting agency. In December 1998, HealthSouth appointed Marc the supervising athletic trainer at Trinity.
Marc is a certified member of the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA), and is licensed in the state of Texas. He is also a member of the Alamo Area Athletic Trainers Association, and is chair of the Charles Cortez Scholarship Committee. Marc is a member of the Southwest Athletic Trainers Association Registration Committee.
Marc works closely with Trinity professor of psychology Carolyn Becker on the University’s Female Body Image Program, which deals with eating disorders and other issues.
He is extensively involved in the community, and assists in major sporting events, including NCAA postseason competition. Marc serves as a Fellowship of Christian Athletes sponsor, and is a board member of Still Water Christian Ministries. He is a life member of the San Antonio Livestock Exposition, and serves on the Medical Committee. Marc also volunteers as an athletic trainer for the San Antonio Rodeo each February.
Each year, Marc serves as the coordinator of a sports medicine symposium at Trinity. In January 2020, a total of 104 sports medicine professionals registered for the two-day event.
Marc is married to the former Kara Karrh, a physical therapy specialist. They are the parents of a son and two daughters, Kasen, Kallie and Kinsley, respectively.
