Craig McConnell

Craig McConnell, a Trinity alum, is in his fourth year as headcoach of the Trinity Tigers men’s golf team.

Since taking over in the fall of 2009, Coach McConnell hasguided the Tigers to four team titles, including two in the 2011-12campaign: the John Bohmann Memorial (Seguin, Texas) and theSchreiner Spring Shootout (Kerrville, Texas).

The Tigers also captured the Trinity-hosted Alamo City Classicin 2009 (Spring Branch, Texas), and the ConCan IntercollegiateConCan, Texas) in 2010. Trinity was runner-up at the prestigiousWest Regional in 2010 at Round Rock, Texas.

Trinity placed fifth in the 2010 and 2011 Southern CollegiateAthletic Conference Championships, and fourth at the 2012 event.Four Tiger players have earned All-SCAC honors under CoachMcConnell’s tutelage, including Kalen Vos and Warren Taylorin 2012. Vos was also selected for the Golf Coaches Association ofAmerica (GCAA) West Region Team.

Geoffrey Setiawan was named a GCAA All-American Scholar in 2012.He earlier won the UMHB (University of Mary Hardin-Baylor) FallInvitational at Killeen, Texas.

The Tigers have been ranked in the top-25 nationally under CoachMcConnell’s watch, by the Golf World/Nike GolfCoaches Division III Poll.

Coach McConnell received a Bachelor of Arts in businessadministration from Trinity in 2007. He was a member ofTrinity’s Dean’s List, the National Society ofCollegiate Scholars, and was President’s Scholarshiphonoree.

On the golf course, Coach McConnell was a team captain andfour-year letter winner for the Tigers. He earned All-SCAC honorsin 2005 and 2007, and was a key member of Trinity’s 2005 SCACChampionship Team.

Coach McConnell was elected to the National Golf CoachesAssociation All-American Scholar Team in 2006, and also receivedSCAC Academic Honor Roll distinction in 2004, 2005, and 2007.

He continued his education at Lamar University in Beaumont,Texas, where he earned a graduate degree in kinesiology. CoachMcConnell was a volunteer assistant golf coach at Lamar University,where he participated in recruiting and team administration. Healso worked as an assistant at the Beaumont Country Club.

In addition, Coach McConnell is a Titleist Performance InstituteCertified Level 2 Golf Instructor.

A native of Beaumont, Coach McConnell is a graduate of MonsignorKelly Catholic High School, where he received all-state golfhonors.
