Montgomery, Alabama - The Trinity women's golf team stands in third place after Sunday's opening round at the talent-packed MCC Women's Intercollegiate at the Montgomery Country Club.
TOURNAMENT SUMMARY
Trinity shot a 314 at the par-73 event. The Tigers are eight strokes behind the leader, defending NCAA Division III champion Rhodes (TN) College. Host Huntingdon College is in second place, just three strokes ahead of Trinity. The Tigers lead nine teams in the 12-squad field.
Hanna Niner carded a 1-under-par 72, and stands alone in second place. Niner is one stroke behind the first-day individual leader, Mackenzie Cohen of Rhodes.
Taylor Moser is tied for fourth place, with a 4-over 77. Lauren Pettinati shot 9-over 82, and is in a tie for the 33rd position. Christine Campbell posted 10-over 83, and is tied for the #41 slot. Shelby DeVore is one stroke in back of her teammate, and is in a tie for 46th.
NOTABLES
Trinity was ranked 20th in the nation at season's end by Golfstat. In the MCC Intercollegiate, seven teams held a top-30 ranking, including #1 Rhodes. Huntingdon was ranked 15th. The Tigers lead two higher ranked teams, the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (TX) (16th), and Sewanee: The University of the South (TN) (seventh.
