Box Score San Antonio - Trinity's ninth-ranked men's soccer team pulled
off another double-overtime victory on Saturday night, edging
Southwestern University 3-2.
Trinity (11-1-2, 6-0-0) has played in five double overtime games
this season, settling for two ties and grabbing three wins.
The Tigers seemed to have the game in hand until the final minutes,
when Southwestern was able to find the back of the net with under
five minutes remaining in the game.
In overtime, Southwestern became the aggressor, narrowly missing on
scoring opportunities that would have given the visitors an upset
win.
As the clock ticked under five minutes in the second overtime,
though, Trinity was able to capitalize on its 11th corner kick of
the night, as Nima Naderi found Alan Llobet for the game-winning
goal.
Ben Grossman scored a pair of goals for the Tigers, opening the
scoring in the 28th minute to give Trinity a 1-0 halftime lead.
Joseph DeCosta's shot actually set up the goal, as Southwestern GK
Nick Pierce's save left a wide-open net for Grossman.
After Southwestern tied the game in the 52nd minute, Trinity had a
quick answer after being rewarded a penalty kick in the 58th
minute. A Southwestern player committed a hand-ball foul in the box
to set up the PK, which Grossman buried for his 10th goal this
season.
That set up Southwestern to tie the game, and also set up Trinity
for the dramatic ending.
The Tigers out-shot Southwestern 26-13 in the game, and the Pirates
had 10 total saves to keep the game close.
Trinity will host Schreiner University Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m.
The Tigers continue SCAC play on the road next weekend, facing off
against Oglethorpe University and Sewanee: University of the South
