of Texas-Dallas Comets beat the 12th-ranked Trinity University
Tigers 25-20, 29-27, 19-25, 25-21 Saturday at the Trinity River
City Classic in Sams Gym.
Trinity (4-2 overall, 1-2 at the tournament) will play
Bridgewater College (Va.) later this evening.
The Tigers hit .150 in the match and the Comets went .159.
Trinity junior setter Caiti Troyer registered a match-tying high
42 assists (with Niki Calverley of UT-Dallas), and led with 21
digs.
Senior outside hitter Amy Mittelstaedt had 14 kills and one ace.
The Comets Jessica Nassau was the match kills leader with 15.
Tiger senior middle blockers Ginger Haley and Aly Hazelwood,
along with junior right-side player Tayler Malloy, each produced
two blocks.
San Antonio - The Tigers edged
the Bridgewater College Eagles 3-2 Saturday in the final match of
the Trinity River City Classic in Sams Gym.
Trinity (5-2) lost the opening set 25-27 and took the second
25-19. Bridgewater took the third 25-22 and the Tigers fought back
to win the fourth 25-17. The fifth set went to the Tigers 15-13, as
they finished the tournament with a 2-2 mark and a third-place
finish.
Junior setter Caiti Troyer registered 43 assists and 13 digs.
She was elected to the All-Tournament Team.
Tayler Malloy, a junior right-side player led the team in kills
with 13 and senior outside hitter Amy Mittelstaedt had 11.
Mittelstaedt also led the Tigers in service aces, with three.
First-year libero Meredith Erwin put in an impressive performance
with 26 digs. Junior outside hitter Alexis Edwards had 14 digs.
Senior middle blocker Aly Hazelwood blocked six shots in the
two-hour match.
The Tigers will compete in the California Lutheran Invitational
next Friday and Saturday at Thousand Oaks, Calif.
