Danville, Ky. - A Trinity University
men's second-half rally fell short as the defending SCAC champion
Centre Colonels beat the Tigers 57-50 Friday at Alumni Gym.
Trinity now stands 6-10 and 3-5 SCAC. Centre improved to 10-5
and 6-2 SCAC.
The Tigers, down 19-37 at halftime, fell behind by as many as 21
points in the second half (23-44, 14:15). But Trinity outscored
Centre 22-7 and closed the gap to six points, 45-51, with 6:26 on
the clock. The rally was capped by a 3-pointer from senior guard
Bart Taylor of San Antonio (St. Mary's Hall). Taylor finished the
game with five points, three rebounds, and two assists.
Two Tiger players scored in double figures, with 11 points each.
Junior forward Luke Caldarera of Houston (Katy Taylor) also had
three steals, two assists, and two rebounds. Sophomore guard Ryan
Beall of Santa Barbara, Calif. (Dos Pueblos), contributed a
team-best seven rebounds, and also had three steals, along with
three assists.
Centre was paced by Jeff Mullaney's 16 points, and Bryon Ellis'
15. Josh Crawford and Alex Lloyd each had 10 rebounds.
Trinity shot 31 percent from the field, to 50 percent by Centre.
The Colonels led 39-27 in rebounding. The Tigers did not commit a
turnover, and Centre made 13.
The Tigers travel to Greencastle, Ind., Saturday, to take on
DePauw in a SCAC game at 6 p.m. Eastern Time.
