Box Score San Antonio - The seventh-ranked Trinity Tigers
men scored a season-high in goals with a 10-0 Southern Collegiate
Athletic Conference shutout Sunday afternoon over the Austin
College Kangaroos at the Trinity Soccer Field.
Trinity, the defending conference champion, upped its record to
10-2-0 and 4-0-0 SCAC. The Tigers last scored 10 goals in a game on
Sept. 21, 2007, in a conference victory over the Millsaps Majors at
Jackson, Miss. Trinity has won two straight games this season, and
nine of the last 10. Austin College dropped to 4-5-3 and 1-3-2
SCAC.
Sunday's game was highlighted by junior forward Peter
Philpott of London, England, who recorded a hat trick. His
three goals came in the 54th, 71st, and 88th minutes. The eventual
game-winner was produced in the 12th minute by junior midfielder CH
Farmer.
Also scoring were senior midfielder Tommy Barros,
junior midfielder Jordan Wade,
sophomore defender Michael
Micheletti, first-year forward Jeremy Gray, and
first-year midfielders Jeff Hayes and Sean
Cantarella.
Junior defender David Steuber
had three assists in the game, and sophomore defender Luke
Tibbitts made two. Included in the assists list were Barros,
junior midfielder Zach Garcia, sophomore forward Alan
Castillejos, junior midfielder Josh Adams,
first-year midfielder MJ Kawamoto, and
sophomore midfielder Aaron
Olson.
Senior goalkeeper Joe Benefield played the entire first
half. Junior Jacob Truitt
and first-year keeper Michael
Barbosa split time in the second half, finishing off
the shutout.
Trinity overwhelmed Austin College with a 34-3 advantage in shots,
and led 24-0 on goal.
The Tigers continue their SCAC campaign next Friday by hosting
Millsaps at 8 p.m., which is followed by a Sunday afternoon matchup
with Birmingham-Southern College.
