Box Score Georgetown, Texas - The sixth-ranked Trinity
Tigers men edged the Southwestern Pirates 2-1 Thursday in a
Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference overtime road game.
Tiger first-year midfielder Yuri Ribeiro scored the game-winning
goal on a penalty kick in the 99th minute of play. It marked
Ribeiro's ninth goal of the season, and his third game-winner.
Trinity, the defending conference champion, improved to 13-2-0 and
7-0-0 SCAC, as the Tigers won their fifth straight game.
Southwestern dropped to 9-5-0 and 6-1-0, in its first SCAC loss of
the campaign.
Junior midfielder Zach Garcia gave Trinity a 1-0 lead, with an
unassisted goal in the 42nd minute. Garcia, who scored on a low
shot, registered his 10th goal of the season. Southwestern's
Forrest Baker evened the game at 1-1 by scoring off a corner kick
in the 88th minute, and forcing the extra time.
Tiger senior goalkeeper Joe Benefield recorded four saves, while
allowing one goal. Benefield now has eight saves this
year.
Trinity led Southwestern 13-11 in total shots, and held a 6-5 edge
in shots on goal.
The Tigers will host University of California-Santa Cruz at 2 p.m.
Sunday. Southwestern and UCSC play Saturday afternoon at
Trinity Soccer Field.
