Box Score San Antonio - The Trinity Tigers men, ranked
No. 1 in the nation, edged the Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels 1-0 Sunday
afternoon in an SCAC game at the Trinity Soccer Field.
Trinity, which concluded its regular-season home campaign, scored
in the 84th minute as sophomore midfielder Kyle Porter recorded his
first goal of the year. First-year midfielder Yuri Ribeiro dished
out his fourth assist of the season.
The Tigers, who have won eight straight games, now stand at 16-2-0
overall. Trinity, the defending SCAC champion, remained undefeated
in SCAC play with a 9-0-0 mark. In addition, Trinity wrapped up the
regular-season home schedule with an 11-1-0 record.
Senior goalkeeper Joe Benefield played the entire game, as Trinity
recorded its eighth shutout. Benefield, who made two saves, has
chalked up 16 on the season.
Trinity led Oglethorpe 19-8 in shots, and held a 6-2 advantage in
shots on goal. The Tigers also led 15-1 in corner kicks.
Next weekend, Trinity will conclude its regular-season schedule
with two SCAC road games. The Tigers meet 11th-ranked DePauw Friday
at Greencastle, Ind., and Centre next Sunday at Danville, Ky.
