Box Score San Antonio - Trinity University Tigers junior forward Abby Loar has been named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week.
Loar, from Littleton, Colo. (Heritage), sparked the Tigers two SCAC road victories last weekend. Trinity (17-1-0), ranked No. 6 in the nation, secured a slot in the NCAA Division III playoffs - and the SCAC Championship - with wins over DePauw and Centre.
She opened the weekend with a pair of second-half goals against DePauw, then scored against Centre, to lead Trinity to a 1-0 victory. In the DePauw match-up, Loar tied the game with just under 25 minutes remaining, countering the opponent's goal minutes earlier. Loar then scored, less than seven minutes later, putting Trinity in the lead for good. Against Centre, Loar produced a first-half goal which proved to be the difference in, what proved to be, the conference title-winning game.
Loar leads the Tigers with 15 goals and 10 assists, tying for ninth in all-time Trinity single-season goals. She also is eighth in Trinity single-season points (40), and is tied for 12th in assists.
Trinity, led by seventh-year Head Coach Lance Key, will travel to Abilene, Texas, for an NCAA Division III first-round game Saturday at Hardin-Simmons.
The Tigers, on a 16-game winning streak, meet Puget Sound at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday afternoon. The second-ranked Cowgirls play Principia (Ill.) in the other opening round game. The winners advance to Sunday's second round, slated for 1 p.m.
