Box Score 2 San Antonio - The Tiger football team finished off the 2010 season with a 28-24 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference win over Austin College on Saturday afternoon.
Trinity (4-6, 2-4 SCAC) ended its season with a victory, snapping the team's three-game losing streak in the process.
The Tigers opened the scoring with a 10-yard run by Caleb Urban, who took the direct snap from Centre, bounced off a tackler, and dove for the goal line. Austin College got on the board shortly after with a 34-yard field goal.
Two second-quarter touchdowns gave Trinity a 21-3 lead at halftime, with Urban capping the first half scoring on a 19-yard pass play from Robert Davidson with just 67 seconds to play. Patrick Granchelli also scored on a two-yard touchdown run earlier in the quarter.
On the second play of the second half, Ben Robinson returned an interception 19 yards for Trinity's fourth score of the game, and his second touchdown of the season.
Austin scored late in the third to make it 28-10, then added another touchdown in the fourth to make it 28-16 after a failed two-point attempt. Both of the scoring drives were more than 90 yards in length.
In fact, aside from the final five drives of the game, Trinity's defense played fairly well, giving up just 121 yards through 2+ quarters.
At the same time that Austin's offense heated up, Trinity's offense also cooled off considerably, but was able to run out enough clock to keep it a two-score game in the final minutes.
Austin College scored on a Hail Mary pass at the end of the game, then converted a two-point play to reach the final score.
Urban finished with more than 100 all-purpose yards for Trinity, catching seven passes for 56 yards and rushing nine times for 31 more yards. He also completed a 35-yard pass to Daniel South, who led the team with 79 yards receiving on four catches.
Granchelli had 21 carries for 89 yards, and Robert Davidson completed 17-23 for 158 yards in the game.
Travis Zambiasi led Austin College in rushing and passing, completing 23-38 for 269 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He also ran 16 times for 117 more yards.
Trinity's Jarrod Burns led all players with 16 tackles in the game, while Robinson finished with 14 tackles - three of which were for a loss.
