Box Score Laguna Vista, Texas - The Trinity women's
golf team maintained its lead and won the Sen. Eddie Lucio
Collegiate Golf Invitational Monday at the South Padre Island Golf
Club, while the men's team finished as runner-up.
Trinity's women, in their first tournament of the spring season,
shot a second-round 347, for a 691 total, at the par-72 event
hosted by the University of Texas-Brownsville and Texas Southmost
College. UT-Brownsville (702) finished second, and Texas Lutheran
(703) was third.
The Tiger men moved up to second place by shooting a final-round
309, for a 613 total. UT-Brownsville (603) won the tournament, Our
Lady of the Lake (614) finished third, the University of the
Southwest (617) was fourth, the second UT-Brownsville team
(656) registered a fifth-place finish, and Texas A&M
International (676) was sixth.
Trinity first-year women's golfer Madison Wallender of Spring
Branch, Texas (Smithson Valley), shot a 10-over-par 82 Monday, for
a 164, and a second-place tournament finish. Wallender was two
strokes behind the medalist, Angela Aufderhaar (162) of Texas
Lutheran.
Senior Olivia Kotter of Akron, Ohio (Firestone), shot 12-over 84
for a 170 and a fourth-place performance. Sophomore Julia Orrange
of Georgetown, Texas (Georgetown), placed 10th, shooting a
second-round 90, for a 180 total. Junior Emma Herzog of Katy, Texas
(Cinco Ranch), had a 91, and a 182 tournament total for 11th place.
Senior Anne Wooton of Baltimore (Friends School) registered a 99
for a 185 two-day total, and a 13th-place finish.
Tiger men's first-year golfer Warren Taylor of Newton, Pa.
(Peddie), recorded a 2-over 74 Monday for a 147, and a tie for
third place. Taylor was five strokes behind the winner, Aaron
Flores (142) of Our Lady of the Lake. The second-place golfer was
Brock Crosson (144) of UT-Brownsville.
Senior Chase Clayton of Bakersfield, Calif. (Garces Memorial),
scored a 4-over 76, for 149 total, and finished in the No. 5
position. Sophomore Ryan Barry of Del Mar, Calif. (Torrey Pines),
tied for 11th place after shooting a 5-over 77, and a total of 157.
Jonathan Alden, a senior from Austin, Texas (Westlake), produced a
10-over 82 and shot 162, in a tie for the 19th slot. Senior Nash
Kassam of Vancouver, British Columbia (St. Georges), finished at
No. 24, with a final day 87 (165 total).
Trinity's women's team will compete starting Feb. 28 at the
Schreiner Women's Spring Shootout at Kerrville, Texas. Next up for
the men is the ConCan Intercollegiate March 14 at ConCan, Texas.
