Box Score ConCan, Texas – The Trinity Tigers men's golf team won its
second tournament of the season, capturing the 13-team TLU ConCan
Intercollegiate Classic Tuesday by 11 strokes.
Trinity shot a second-round 301, for a 613 total, at the
par-72 course of The Club at ConCan. The Tigers, in second place
Monday, outdistanced host Texas Lutheran (624) and third-place
Schreiner (627). Mary Hardin-Baylor, the first-round leader, placed
fourth (636). The Tigers earlier won their Alamo City Classic, last
October, at Spring Branch, Texas.
Senior Jonathan Alden of Austin, Texas (Westlake), won medalist
honors by shooting a 3-under-par 69 Tuesday, for a two-round 4-over
148 total. Alden improved his score by 10 strokes from
Monday's round, rallying from a tie for 14th
place. Brent Marshall of Texas-Dallas, the runner-up, shot a 3-over
75 for a two-round total of 150. Alden previously won the John
Bohmann Memorial last September in Seguin, Texas.
Sophomore Ryan Barry of Del Mar, Calif. (Torrey Pines), who
won the Alamo City Classic, recorded a 5-over 77 in Tuesday's
second round, for a 154 total. Barry tied for seventh place with
first-year Geoffrey Setiawan of Jakarta, Indonesia (International
Community School), who recorded a 3-over 75. First-year Warren Taylor of Newton,
Pa. (Peddie), tied for 11th place, shooting an 8-over 80
for 157 total.
Senior Chase Clayton of Bakersfield, Calif. (Memorial), who
shot a 79 in the first round, had to withdraw because of an
injury.
The Tiger men and women will compete Friday through Sunday at
the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational, at Jekyll Island, Ga.
Trinity's women won the Sen. Eddie Lucio Collegiate
Invitational in February at South Padre Island, Texas.
Trinity is led by head coach Carla Spenkoch, who works
primarily with the women's team. The assistant coach is Craig
McConnell, whose focus is on the men's squad.
