Box Score Jekyll Island, Ga. – The Trinity Tigers
men golf team is tied for 13th place, and Trinity's women are
17th, after Friday's first round of the Jekyll Island
Collegiate Invitatational.
Trinity's men, ranked No. 22 in the nation by an NCAA
Division III coaches' poll, shot an opening-round 304 at the
54-hole tournament being played at the par-72 Pine Lakes Golf Club.
The Tigers, who have won two tournaments this season, are tied with
Illinois Wesleyan and LaGrange in the 27-team event. Huntingdon is
the first-round leader, with a 287.
Senior Jonathan Alden of Austin, Texas (Westlake), shot a 1-over
73 and is tied for 15th place. Alden has won medalist honors twice
this season.
First-year golfer Geoffrey Setiawan of Jakarta, Indonesia
(International Community School), recorded a 4-over 76, and is tied
for 43rd place. Sophomore Ryan Barry of Del Mar, Calif. (Torrey
Pines), was 5-over 77 Friday, for a tie for 53rd place. Senior Nash
Kassam of Vancouver British, Columbia (St. Georges), went 6-over
78, and is tied for 65th. First-year Warren Taylor of Newton,
Pa. (Peddie), shot an 8-over 80, for a tie for 85th place.
Trinity's women, who have won a team title this season,
shot a first-round 372 at the Indian Mound Course. Methodist is the
leader of the 23-team tournament, at 315.
Sophomore Julia Orrange of Georgetown, Texas (Georgetown),
registered a 91. Senior Olivia Kotter of Akron, Ohio (Firestone),
shot a 92; and junior Emma Herzog of Katy, Texas (Cinco Ranch),
produced a 94. Senior Anne Wooton of Baltimore (Friends School),
shot an opening-day 95.
The second round will be played Saturday, and the tournament
concludes Sunday.
