Abilene, Texas – The 13th-ranked Hardin-Simmons Cowgirls blanked the No. 5 Trinity Tigers 4-0 Saturday evening.

The Tigers (1-1-0) had defeated Hardin-Simmons 1-0 in last year's NCAA Division III regional tournament, hosted at the Trinity Soccer Field.

Hardin-Simmons, which played its season-opener, scored in the fifth minute of play, followed by a goal in the ninth minute. The Cowgirls added a third goal for the 3-0 lead at halftime.

The second half was tightly played, but Hardin-Simmons got another goal in the 64th minute to finish off the game's scoring.

Trinity opens its home campaign next Tuesday by hosting Mary Hardin-Baylor at 7 p.m.
