Box Score San Antonio - Trinity Tigers junior defender
Kyle Porter (Albuquerque, N.M./Eldorado) has been named the
Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Defensive
Player of the Week.
Porter and his Tiger teammates wrapped up the regular season with a
pair of SCAC victories over Austin College (4-0) and the University
of Dallas (2-0).
The stingy Trinity defense, paced by Porter, limited Austin College
to just three shots on goal (seven total). Contributing to the
offense, Porter scored both of Trinity's goals in the victory over
the University of Dallas. His first game-winning goal of the
campaign occurred in the 65th minute of play.
For the season, Porter has chalked up three goals and two
assists.
Trinity, led by head coach Paul McGinlay, completed the regular
season with undefeated records of 14-0-2 and 9-0-0 SCAC. The
Tigers, ranked fifth in the NCAA Division III, begin defense of
their conference title Saturday at the SCAC Tournament at
Birmingham, Ala. Top-seeded Trinity, which received a first-round
bye, will play the winner of No. 4 Birmingham-Southern (the host
team) and No. 5 Centre at 5 p.m.
The winner of the six-team event, which concludes Sunday, will earn
an automatic bid to the NCAA playoffs.
