San Antonio - Trinity University Tigers
sophomore defender Jennifer White (Albuquerque, N.M./Albuquerque
Academy) has been named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference
Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week.
White led the Tiger defense in recording three shutouts to finish
off the regular-season campaign. The Tigers blanked NAIA member
Huston-Tillotson 2-0, and SCAC opponents Austin College (2-0) and
the University of Dallas (1-0, overtime).
The Tigers, who have 15 shutouts for the season, allowed one shot
on goal in each of the three games, and yielded only six total
shots. For the season, White and the taut Tiger defense have
permitted 3.3 shots per game.
Trinity, ranked third in the NCAA Division III, completed the
regular season with undefeated records of 18-0-0 and 8-0-0 SCAC.
The Tigers, led by head coach Lance Key, are the top seeds (and
defending champions) in next weekend's SCAC Tournament at
Birmingham, Ala.
The Tigers have a first-round bye and will take on the winner of
No. 4 Rhodes and fifth-seeded Hendrix at noon Saturday in the
semifinals.
The winner of the six-team tournament, which concludes Sunday, will
receive an automatic bid to the NCAA playoffs.
