Box Score Ashland, Va. - The Trinity Tigers men's
basketball team lost 55-40 to host Randolph-Macon College on
Saturday, finishing off the holiday weekend at the Yellow Jacket
Classic.
Trinity (3-3) fell 84-54 Friday to top-ranked Virginia Wesleyan
on the opening day of the classic. Randolph-Macon, which received
votes in the D3hoops.com poll, improved to 4-1.
The Yellow Jackets went on a 12-1 scoring run and led 21-9 with
five minutes left in the first half. Randolph-Macon went on to take
a 26-15 advantage at the intermission. The scrappy Tigers, though,
went on an 11-0 run to cut the deicit to one point, 30-31, with
just under 13 minutes remaining in the game. The Yellow Jackets
extended their lead to 41-33 at the 10-minute mark. Trinity kept
plugging away, and closed to 38-43, before Randolph-Macon responded
with a 12-2 run to seal the win.
Zach Lambert paced the Tigers with 11 points, shooting 5-10 from
the field. Jonathan Wilt added 10 points, on 4-7 shooting from the
field, and 2-3 in 3-point range. Ryan Beall
(three points) led the Tigers with six rebounds and three
steals, and tied William Young (two points) for the assists lead,
chalking up four. Clarke Allan scored five points and pulled in
four rebounds.
Andre Simon of Randolph-Macon registered a double-double of 14
points and 14 renounds.
Trinity shot 35.4 percent (17-48) and Randolph-Macon hit 35.2
percent (19-54). The Yellow Jackets held a 42-30 advantage in total
rebounds.
The Tigers begin their Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference
campaign next Friday at Hendrix College, followed by a Saturday
SCAC game in Colorado Springs, Colo., against Colorado College.
