Box Score San Antonio - The Tiger men's soccer team
earned a 5-0 victory over the University of California-Santa Cruz
to finish off the regular season schedule on Friday night.
Trinity improved to 16-0-3 with its 11th shutout of the year,
sparked by four goals in the second half of play. The Tigers
held a 9-4 edge in shots for the first half, scoring just one goal.
In the second, Trinity out-shot UC-Santa Cruz 19-0 to earn
the victory.
Yuri Ribeiro nailed his team-leading 14th goal for the eventual
game-winner in the eighth minute of the game. It marked the
third game-winning goal of the season for the All-American.
Victor Araujo had a hand in each of the first three goals of the
second half for Trinity, as the Tigers took command of the game.
Araujo and Ribeiro both assisted on the first score, which
was a rebound goal for MJ Kawamoto. In a span of less than
eight minutes, Araujo added a goal of his own, and an assist on the
next goal - scored by Aaron Olson.
Alan Castillejos capped the scoring for the Tigers, netting a
goal in the 76th minute on an assist by Jonny Lawson.
Matt Cardone, Tim Nelin, and Chad Margotta combined for the
shutout in Friday's game. Cardone made one save, while
Kawamoto actually made the other as he cleared a ball of the line
for the Tigers.
Trinity received a bye for the Southern Collegiate Athletic
Conference Tournament, which begins next weekend. The Tigers,
who will serve as hosts for the tournament, will play on Saturday
at 5:00 p.m., against either Dallas or Austin College.
