Box Score Irving, Texas - The Trinity men's basketball
team began its final weekend of the regular season with a 74-59
Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference win at the University of
Dallas on Friday night.
Trinity won its seventh consecutive game to improve to 16-8 this
season, which includes an 11-4 record in SCAC play.
Despite missing its first seven shots, Trinity never trailed by
more than two points at any point in the game. An 11-1 run by
the Tigers late in the first half gave the visitors a 10-point
advantage with just over three minutes to play, and that held until
halftime (35-25).
After both teams shot less than 40% in the first half, Trinity
came out on fire in the second, pushing the lead over 20 points
with a 21-6 run to open the period. Dallas got hot late in
the game with a 15-2 run, but could get no closer than 13 points
the rest of the game.
Zach Lambert and Heath Hopson led all scorers with 16 points for
the Tigers. Lambert connected on 5-9 from the field (1-3
three-pointers) and 5-6 from the foul line. Hopson came off
the bench with a 5-10 shooting performance, and nailed all six free
throw tries. Lambert also led the team with eight
rebounds.
William Young led the game with six assists, while Ryan Beall
was just behind him with five assists for Trinity. Matt
Selling and Robert Kitzinger chipped in with eight points each,
while Jonathan Wilt scored seven. All three players pulled
down four rebounds.
Tanner Bruffey led Dallas with 12 points, while Aaron Wyatt and
Braeton Hightower scored 10 points each in the loss.
The Tigers are tied atop the SCAC West Division with Austin
College, who will host Trinity in the regular season finale
tomorrow evening. The winner will secure the West's top seed
in the SCAC Tournament next weekend.
