Box Score San Antonio - Trinity's fourth-ranked
men's soccer team scored a 4-1 victory in the season opener against
ninth-ranked University of Texas-Tyler on Friday night.
The Tigers took a 1-0 lead into halftime, after scoring with
just 19 seconds remaining in the opening period of the 2012
campaign.
Opening the second half, both teams put on an offensive showcase
with four combined goals in the first 10:42 of the period.
Trinity went up 2-0 less than three minutes in, before
UT-Tyler answered with a goal on a penalty kick just over two
minutes later. The Tigers answered in less than 20 seconds
with another goal, then added an insurance score in the 56th
minute.
Tom Carwile got Trinity on the board first, while Brian Hines
wound up with the game-winner in the 48th minute. Simon Uribe
and Jeff Hayes also scored for the Tigers.
Nima Naderi and Yuri Ribiero had two assists each in the game,
while Carwile also added an assist in his collegiate debut.
Goalkeeper Matt Cardone just missed saving the penalty for a
shutout, but did record four saves in the victory.
Overall, Trinity held a 16-11 edge in shots and a 6-2 advantage
in corner kicks.
The Tigers continue a busy Labor Day Weekend with games on
Sunday and Monday. Trinity hosts Mississippi College at 11:00
a.m. on Sunday, followed by a 2:00 p.m. tilt against Willamette
University on Monday afternoon.
