San Antonio - Trinity women's soccer
player Shelby Hopkins has been named the Southern Collegiate
Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week, after leading the
Tigers to a pair of shutout victories.
The Tigers improved to 3-0-1 with the two wins, beating both
UT-Tyler and UT-Dallas on the road. Trinity is ranked sixth
in the National Soccer Coaches Assocation of America Division III
poll, with the only blemish on the team's record coming in a 1-1
tie on the road against nationally-ranked Hardin-Simmons.
Hopkins led the Tiger defense in giving up just three shots on
goal in the two games, and 19 shots total in 180 minutes of action.
She also got in on the scoring in the second game, netting
her first career goal to put Trinity ahead 3-0 against UT-Dallas on
Sunday afternoon.
In four games to start the season, Hopkins and the Trinity
defense have allowed just one goal - recording three shutouts.
Head Coach Lance Key is in his ninth season with the Tigers,
coming into the season fourth among active Division III coaches
with his .860 winning percentage. Trinity will make its home
debut on Friday night, facing off against Our Lady of the Lake
University at 7:00 p.m.
