San Antonio - Tiger cross country runners Francisco Escobedo and Maddie Murphy have been selected as the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's and Women's Runners of the Week.

Trinity competed at the Rice Invitational in Houston, Texas, on Friday evening.  It was the first road trip of the season for the Tigers, who opened the year by hosting the Alamo City Opener on August 31.

Murphy helped the women's team to a seventh place finish among six of the top 15 Division I South Central Region teams.  She finished 26th individually in 13:38 for the 3.7K race, which was the 37th annual event hosted by Rice University.

Escobedo finished his 5,700 meter race in 17:58 for 50th place in the weekend meet.  He helped pace the Tiger men to an eighth place finish, competing against seven of the top 10 Division I South Central Region teams.

The men's and women's cross country teams are led by first-year Head Coach Derick Lawrence.  Lawrence and the Tigers return to action September 29 at the Grass Routes Run Festival in Austin, Texas.
