Box Score San Antonio - Trinity's men's soccer team
posted its first shutout of the season with a 4-0 victory over
Mississippi College on Sunday afternoon.
The Tigers (2-0-0) are ranked fourth (tied) in Division III
according to the preseason poll released by the National Soccer
Coaches Assocation of America. Trinity defeated ninth-ranked
UT-Tyler 4-1 to open the season on Friday night.
In today's game, Trinity had eight shots in each half, holding
the Choctaws to just six shots total in the game. Goalkeeper
Matt Cardone had three saves in his first shutout of the year,
following a 2011 season in which he recorded three shutouts as a
first-year player.
Trinity scored twice in each half, getting on the board halfway
through the first period with the eventual game-winning goal from
Jeff Hayes. Hayes got on the board in Friday's game as well,
knocking in the team's final goal of the night.
Yuri Ribiero added the second goal for the Tigers in the 36th
minute, then he netted his second of the game early in the second
half to put Trinity up 3-0. Luke Tibbitts scored his first
career goal in the final minutes, closing out the game's
scoring.
Kyle Porter picked up a pair of assists in the game, including
the game-winner. Brian Hines and Murray Fraser also recorded
assists for the Tigers.
Trinity returns to action tomorrow against Willamette University
at 2:00 p.m. Next weekend, the Tigers continue their home
stand to start the season, facing off against the University of
Texas-Dallas and Hardin-Simmons University on Friday and Saturday.
Both games will start at 7:30 p.m.
