Jeff Hayes Named SCAC Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week

Box Score

San Antonio - Trinity's Jeff Hayes has been named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, after leading the Tigers to 2-0 start to the season.

Hayes paced a Tiger defense that allowed just one goal and 17 total shots in its first two games, posting a 4-0 shutout against Mississippi College on Sunday afternoon.

While anchoring the defense, Hayes also managed to get into the action offensively as well, scoring a goal in each of the first two games.  His first-half score against Mississippi College was the eventual game-winner.

In just two games, Hayes has already matched his season total in goals for 2011 - a year in which he played 17 of 18 team games.

Head Coach Paul McGinlay is in his 22nd season with the Trinity Tigers, who moved up to the top-ranked position in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America Division III poll.  McGinlay has led the Tigers to 10 consecutive appearances in the NCAA Playoffs.
