Box Score San Antonio - Trinity's Jeff Hayes has
been named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Soccer
Defensive Player of the Week, after leading the Tigers to 2-0 start
to the season.
Hayes paced a Tiger defense that allowed just one goal and 17
total shots in its first two games, posting a 4-0 shutout against
Mississippi College on Sunday afternoon.
While anchoring the defense, Hayes also managed to get into the
action offensively as well, scoring a goal in each of the first two
games. His first-half score against Mississippi College was
the eventual game-winner.
In just two games, Hayes has already matched his season total in
goals for 2011 - a year in which he played 17 of 18 team games.
Head Coach Paul McGinlay is in his 22nd season with the Trinity
Tigers, who moved up to the top-ranked position in the latest
National Soccer Coaches Association of America Division III poll.
McGinlay has led the Tigers to 10 consecutive appearances in
the NCAA Playoffs.
