Trinity's Win Streak Snapped in SCAC Loss to Colorado College

Box Score

San Antonio - The Tiger men's basketball team had its seven-game winning streak snapped in a 68-66 loss to Colorado College on Sunday afternoon.

Trinity fell to 9-4 overall and 3-1 in SCAC play, while Colorado College remained unbeaten and atop the SCAC standings with a 4-0 record.

The two teams played close through the first part of the game, but a 13-2 Trinity run made it 26-15 with 3:46 until halftime.  The Tigers then scored a layup in the final minute to make it 31-19 at the break.

After Colorado fell behind 21-33 early in the second, the visitors went on a 15-6 run to cut the lead to just three (36-39) with just over five minutes elapsed.  After a Trinity basket, Colorado continued its run, which ended up with them scoring 28 of 38 points to lead 49-45 with 11:16 to play.

Trinity never got back in the lead, but did tie the game 50-50 a few minutes later.  Colorado knocked in a pair of free throws to take a 66-59 lead with 2:18 remaining, and looked to be in control for the win.  Trinity scored the next five points, highlighted by a bank-shot three-pointer with 1:07 left that made it 66-64 Colorado.

The Trinity Tigers got a turnover on the next possession, but missed its next shot with 18 seconds left, and were forced to foul.  Colorado made just 1-2 at the line, though, and Trinity was still in it.  After scoring a layup, Trinity fouled Colorado with 5.0 seconds to play, and the visitors again made just 1-2 from the stripe, and Trinity trailed 66-68.

Trinity got the inbounds pass in near half court, and Heath Hopson drove to the lane for the tie.  His layup bounced off the rim and out, and Colorado escaped with the victory.

Hopson finished with a game-high 27 points off the bench, sinking 10-18 from the floor.  He scored the five straight points - including a rare three-pointer - that put Trinity within two in the final minute.  Hopson also led the Tigers with six rebounds.

Matt Hopper and Zach Lambert chipped in with eight points each, while both Jonathan Wilt and Robert Kitzinger each had seven.

Chris Lesnansky hit 10-12 free throws on his way to a team-best 18 points for Colorado College.  He also led the team with nine rebounds and hit 4-6 from the floor.  Jake Tramutolo scored 12 points, while Ryan Milne added 11 points in the win.

Trinity will resume SCAC play next weekend, playing at Austin College and Centenary on Friday and Saturday nights.
