Sherman, Texas – The third-ranked Trinity
Tigers women's soccer team wrapped up its Southern Collegiate
Athletic Conference weekend with a 7-0 shutout of the Austin
College Kangaroos Sunday afternoon.
Trinity, the defending conference champion, remained undefeated
with a 15-0-1 overall record, and a 9-0-0 SCAC mark. The Tigers
also won their 13th consecutive game. Trinity beat Austin
College 6-1 on September 29 in San Antonio.
Seven players scored the goals, starting with Emily Jorgens,
just four minutes into the matchup. Shelby Guenthardt chalked up
her first of two assists. Jorgens, who also picked up two assists,
leads the Tigers with 45 points, scoring 15 goals, and dishing out
15 assists. She is in second place with 46 career assists in the
Trinity record books.
Kelsey Falcone, Tara Sparks, and Jordan Leeper also scored
first-half goals, and the Tigers led 4-0 at the intermission.
The opening goal of the second half was supplied by Guenthardt,
who now has scored 46 in her career (11 this season). Guenthardt is
in fifth place on Trinity's career scoring list. She is one
goal away from tying Lindsay Rowland (2001-2003) for fourth
place.
Hannah Hommel scored in the 54th minute of play, and
Kimberly Polasek in the 68th minute to wrap up the goals.
In addition to Jorgens and Guenthardt, Falcone and Jennifer
White were credited with two assists each. Maggie Olvera also was
listed in the assists column.
The Tigers will play two SCAC road games next weekend, starting
with a Friday matchup with Texas Lutheran at 3:00 p.m. in Seguin,
Texas. Sunday's game with Schreiner, at Kerrville, Texas,
gets under way at 1:00 p.m.
